Many people have asked the question how to brush with baking soda because they may have heard that it can make their teeth whiter and although this might be true there are a number of important related questions that they should also be asking as well.

For example, what is baking soda, should I brush with baking soda, is it safe to brush with baking soda, does it have any side effects and the list of question goes on.

First I will attempt to address the question of what is baking soda along with a brief history of it and finally how to brush with it. Baking soda is also known as sodium carbonate and sodium hydrogen carbonate within the scientific community and its' compound formula is Na Hco3.

It is the whiter fine powdery process form that is most common and well known, but it is actually a crystalline white solid substance. You should be prepared for the taste as it can be slightly salty and alkaline that will need getting use too, it is similar to washing soda or sodium carbonate.

It is a component of natron, which can be found dissolved in some mineral springs and also in the bile of the stomach where it neutralizes the acids that are produced by the pancreas and then excreted into the duodenum via the bile ducts.

It is a little know fact that baking soda in the form of natronhas been used since ancient times by the Egyptians as a cleaning agent similar to soap.

Sometime around 1791 sodium carbonate was produced by a French Chemist known as Nicolas Leblanc, but at the time it was named soda ash.

The first factory that was set up to produce baking soda started in 1846 by John Dright and Austin Church two New York bakers at the time.

According to the famous novel by Rudyard Kipling 'Captains Courageous', baking soda then know as sateralus was extensively used by fishermen in the 1800s as a means of preventing the newly caught fish from spoiling before they got back to shore.

The name saterlus comes from the Latin sal aeratus, which means aeratus salt and it is also said to have been used widely in the 19thcentury.

Should you use baking soda in its' raw form or in the commercial toothpaste and how often should it be used? These are questions that only you can answer, but hopefully you will gain enough insight here to empower you to make an informed decision.

Although it would be obvious that the raw form would be best for one particular aspect and that is to whiten the teeth, however, you will still need some kind of month regime to deal with bacteria and plaque

In which case the commercial option would appear the best choice as you will be benefiting from both, that is until you realize that the commercial form of baking soda toothpaste, as do all forms of toothpaste, contains other abrasive chemical agents.

How to brush with baking soda: little known fact

how to brush with baking soda…The little known fact is that no form of toothpaste should be swallowed because of the amount of toxins within toothpaste.

Also because of the abrasiveness of baking soda it is not recommended for daily use neither is it recommended for people with braces, dentures or retainers as it can dissolve the glue.

If you elect to go the natural route then it is fairly easy to brush with baking soda although the commercial toothpaste is easier as it will be the same process as ordinary toothpaste.

However, in the raw state it needs to be prepared and this is done by getting a small cup or dish and a small spoon, take small amount and place it in the dish add a few drops of water at a time until it become a nice even paste, you want about a 50% mix.

You might need to do this process a few times in order to get the right consistency all the time, dip the toothbrush in the mixture and brush as normal for about two minute until it begins to foam and then wash it out.

It is recommended that this be done only a couple of time s a week and that is how to brush with baking soda.
